I am not Hillary; you are not Trump. We may have voted for them but we are not them. We are different and yet we are the same. And thank God for our differences. Can you imagine a world where we all thought the same? Sounds beige and boring. Our differences challenge our thinking, makes us question, compromise and wonder. Helps us grow. We know in corporations, small businesses, school boards… that diversity and differences truly makes us stronger. We agree to disagree. This is the foundation of our country.
To all who voted who are tired of the same politics, same status quo, same insider politics – I hear you, I see you, I feel your pain.
To all of us who voted for equality, women’s right to choose, the environment – I hear you, I see you, I feel your pain.
Because there is pain.
So now we have change. Radical change. And even in our differences, I believe we can all agree on our basic inalienable rights of freedom, equality, and justice.
Now we decide what’s next? What do we want in our world? What are we willing to accept and at what cost?
Time to decide. Time to act.
My own personal change, starting now, is to give up complacency and speak up. I’m deciding now what I want in my home and in my world:
In my home, in my world, there is love for all souls regardless of race, religion or ideologies. There is no tolerance for discrimination, bullying or harassment.
In my home, in my world, there is acceptance for all my gay and transgender brothers and sisters. There is no tolerance for hate speech or actions.
In my home, in my world, there is strength for all young girls and women. There is no tolerance for demeaning sexual innuendos, derogatory language, sexual aggression and abuse.
In my home, in my world, there is courage to express my ideals and vision of the world. There is no tolerance for silence when action is needed and required.
In my home, in my world, there is peace and, as best as I can, will not match fear with fear or hate with hate.
In my home, in my world, there is learning for all whom are declared different or disabled. There is no tolerance for ignorance or unjust words or actions.
In my home, in my world, there is support – financially, physically, emotionally for organizations and individuals that support equality, women’s right to choose, and the environment.
This is my affirmation. This is my prayer.
These are our inalienable rights. One Nation under God.
